Purpose of the Committee (According to Bylaws):
Created in 2019, It is the intent to create a Committee on Cultural Awareness and Social Inclusion in the City of La Verne to educate, inform, encourage, and build awareness. The focus of the Committee is to provide understanding that every inhabitant is entitled to equal accommodations within the City, this includes economic, political, and educational opportunities, and public services. The Committee shall work to inform community members how to eliminate prejudice and discrimination because of race, religion, color, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, medical condition, citizenship, marital status, military service, or other characteristics protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws. The Committee on Cultural Awareness and Social Inclusion shall provide advice and be a sounding board in order that all interested parties can be made aware of remedial steps to enhance peace and good order, and provide equal opportunity for good will and hospitality toward all people. Nothing in this Committee shall be interpreted or applied, so as to create any power or duty in conflict with the preemptive effect of any federal or state law.

- Initiative: Ambassadorship to other groups in the city—engage different city groups regarding equal access to city accommodations (Outcome addressed: increase equality of accommodation and inform of remedial steps)

- Create an ambassador program
- Have an ambassador in each major city group
- Make at least one presentation at a meeting of every major city group

- Initiative: “Join Us for Dinner” (Outcome addressed: eliminate prejudice and discrimination, remedial steps to enhance peace and good order)
- Measures of Success:
- Every CASI member participates in one dinner (each one reach one)—either host a dinner or bring a stranger-guest to a group dinner
Objective #3: Provide advice and serve as a sounding board
- Initiative: Community Support Form (Outcome addressed: Equal accommodation, eliminate prejudice and discrimination, remedial steps to enhance peace and good order)
- Measures of Success:
- Place the form in a prominent position in city (city website) and have each ambassador inform groups on the existence of the form
- TBD on whether the police/city can use the form
- Restorative response for each reported event
Objective #4: Provide a forum for discussion and avenues to educate and pursue
- Initiative: General meetings (Outcome addressed: Equal accommodation, eliminate prejudice and discrimination, remedial steps to enhance peace and good order)
- Measures of Success:
- Each general meeting (10/year) have a three-part program: (1) education, (2) restorative practice, and (3) public forum
